Master Programs

Geological Resources and Geological Engineering

Program Introduction

The discipline of "Geological Resources and Geological Engineering" at China University of Petroleum (Beijing) is one of the earliest established disciplines in China's industry-focused universities, originating from the Petroleum Geology and Exploration and Geophysical Exploration programs founded in 1953 at Beijing Petroleum Institute. In the new development phase, the discipline will align with the nation's major energy strategic needs and long-term development plans, emphasizing goal-oriented research to serve national energy demands and the "dual carbon" objectives. It will focus on key areas such as the formation mechanisms and resource prediction of deep oil and gas, unconventional oil and gas resources and exploration, intelligent prediction and extraction of remaining oil and gas in complex geology, and deepwater oil and gas resources and exploration. Additionally, it will cultivate five disciplinary directions, including clean geological energy and strategic resources associated with oil and gas. By gathering talent, enhancing innovation platforms, and striving to become a global hub for original petroleum science and technology and a leader in the industry chain, the discipline aims to achieve the overarching goal of building a "world-class discipline with Chinese characteristics."
